			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A Flea is a common small wingless insect. Fleas, being external parasites, live by hematophagy off the blood of mammals and birds that they live on. There is several different species of fleas, with the most well known being:<br />
- Cat Flea<br />
- Dog Flea<br />
- Northern Rat Flea<br />
- Oriental Rat Flea</p>
<p>It is rare that flea&#8217;s become damaging to their host; in most cases they are just nuisances. There can however become a problem when the host suffers an allergic reaction to the flea saliva. Spots where fleas bite are normally visible by a slightly raised and itchy swolled spot, that will have a single puncture at the center.</p>
<p>It is important to note that opposite to what I said above, fleas can transmit diseases. This is a rare scenario, but does happen, and an example is the bubonic plague where the disease was transferred between rodents and humans. If that is not bad enough Murine typhus fever and even some cases of tapeworms can be transmitted by fleas.<br />

Fleas are busy little insects and will pass through a complete life cycle, egg to adult, in as short as two weeks to as long as eight months, depending on environment conditions. Generally after a blood meal a female flea will lay eggs, about 15 per day, and up to about 600 in its whole lifetime. The eggs are generally layed on the host, and will often times drop off the host. These Flea eggs take between 2 days to 2 weeks to hatch.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As modern society searches around for alternative energy sources, wind farms are getting mention. There are, however, limitations regarding wind farms as major energy alternatives.</p>
<p>Wind Farms  Limitations as Energy Platforms</p>
<p>Wind power is an enticing energy platform compared to fossil fuels. The process works by using the inherent energy in wind as a method for producing electricity. The actual methodology is much like hydropower, but with wind used in place of water. Wind turbines catch the wind, which turns their blades. This turning motion cranks a generator that produces electricity. The electricity is stored in batteries or fed into the electrical grid of a utility. Walla, you have power!</p>
<p>Using wind power for localized needs has been around for a long time. The Persians are believed to be the first to use it with the purpose being to turn grain grinding stones. In modern times, the sole purpose is to generate electricity. On a large scale, this means wind farms.</p>
<p>Wind farms are simply large collections of wind turbines in a defined area. If you have ever driven east out of San Francisco, you have seen the wind farm along the freeway. While it is both intoxicating and a pollution free source of electricity, a wind farm has definite limitations.<br />
<span id="more-1079"></span><br />
The biggest limitation of wind farms is the electricity produced. Simply put, they do not produce massive amounts, certainly not on the scale needed in most cities in industrialized nations. Obviously, each location is different, but wind is simply not a constant occurrence in most places. Even when it is, the number of turbines required to produce enough energy for a city is mind boggling. This, of course, leads to a second limitation.</p>
<p>Wind farms need to cover a lot of physical space to produce large amounts of electricity. In many industrialized countries, space is at a premium. As a result, the sheer cost of purchasing land for wind farms is prohibitive. This issue, however, is losing some of its grit as offshore wind farms are becoming more prevalent.</p>
<p>To some, one of the limitations of wind farms is they are eyesores. Personally, I think they are mesmerizing and have an artistic appearance. Others, however, definitely do not agree. The Cape Wind offshore wind farm project has met with massive resistance for just this reason.</p>
<p>The limitations of wind farms are fairly significant at this point in time. As technology and new approaches, such as offshore wind farms, come to the forefront, these problems may fall the wayside.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Nikola Tesla was born on July 9, 1856, in a very small village called Smiljan, in the province of Lika, Croatia. You may not know who this man is, but he invented the theories of electricity we use today.</p>
<p>Tesla finished his basic schooling in Croatia.  He continued his education in the Polytechnic School in Graz and finished at University of Prague. He worked as an Electrical engineer in Germany, Hungary and France before coming to the United States in 1884 as an immigrant.  When Tesla arrived in New York, he quickly obtained a job with Thomas Edison. Tesla worked for Edison for many years until finally there differences in methods separated the two men in 1885. There two main differences were that Edison believed that DC (Direct Current) was the power of the future. Tesla had been working on the AC (Alternating Current) power we have today.   After the Tesla left Edison&#8217;s lab, George Westinghouse, founder of the Westinghouse Electric Company, bought patent rights to Tesla&#8217;s system of alternating-current.</p>
<p>There were many advantages to Tesla&#8217;s alternating current vs. Edison&#8217;s direct current. The advantages became prevalent when Westinghouse used Tesla&#8217;s Alternating current to light the World Columbian Exposition at Chicago in 1893. It was after this that  people started to realize this type of electricity&#8217;s  amazing abilities.</p>
<p>Tesla established a laboratory in New York City in 1887. His electrical  experiments ranged from an exploration of electrical resonance and many  studies of various lighting systems. In order to calm the public about the safety of Tesla&#8217;s power system, he would hold exhibitions of his power in his laboratory.  He would light a light bulb without wires allowing the electricity to flow through his body in a spectacular flurry of lighting and sparks.</p>
<p>Tesla became a United States citizen in 1891. His creative powers were at its peak.  He worked on and developed many things including the induction motor, new types of generators and transformers.  He also developed a system that transmitted his AC current.  There are so many things that you use today that Tesla created.  It is little know but the lamp we use to conserve energy, the fluorescent light was also one of his inventions.  Tesla had many interests in electrical power.  Tesla best known for his method of a wireless power transmission. The Tesla Coil. He envisioned that he would transmit power straight through the air to the user for free.  Amazing and truly a ground breaking idea.  He started construction on a wireless power transmission tower in 1900.  The project was abandoned due to his lack of financial support.  Tesla soon turned his genius to other inventions, such as power generating turbines.  He continued to have many problems with his financial support and many of his ideas were shelved.<br />

Nikola Tesla is one of my favorite inventors.  He had electricity flowing through his blood.  The man invented so many things we take for granted today and received very little credit.  He was well ahead of his time.  We may thing that Edison was a great inventor and he was, but Edison and many others took Tesla&#8217;s ideas and exploited them to the things we have today for there own profit and took the credit themselves.  We know now know this man was exploited and was not given credit where credit is due. Many Electrical Engineers still study Tesla&#8217;s notes in order to find an idea that can be exploited and elaborated today.</p>
<p>Tesla is most credited with His Tesla Coil.  This coil will deliver power through the air with a great deal of voltage, like a lighting bolt. The wireless age is upon us, is Wireless power next?</p>
<p>&#8220;Before I put a sketch on paper, the whole idea is worked out mentally. In my mind I change the construction, make improvements, and even operate the device. Without ever having drawn a sketch I can give the measurements of all parts to workmen, and when completed all these parts will fit, just as certainly as though I had made the actual drawings. It is immaterial to me whether I run my machine in my mind or test it in my shop. The inventions I have conceived in this way have always worked. In thirty years there has not been a single exception. My first electric motor, the vacuum wireless light, my turbine engine and many other devices have all been developed in exactly this way.&#8221; Nikola Tesla</p>

<p>Nikola Tesla died in New York on January 7, 1943. There is a lot of information on Nikola Tesla available. I have only touched on the tip of this mans genius.  Take some time and look him up. You will be amazed!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The heat waves of the future will be even hotter.  Global warming is affecting the weather.  The trend is pointing toward even warmer heat waves in the future.  Kevin Trenberth, climate analysis branch chief for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, says that heat waves and global warming are very strongly connected.  He confirmed that studies in the last five years have shown that climate changes are most dangerous during high temperatures, droughts and flooding.</p>
<p>Currently, persistent high pressure systems in the upper atmosphere prevent cooler air from reaching the West Coast.  California is experiencing heat waves daily.  The nights are generally warmer and the days have become drier.</p>
<p>While heat waves always occur, Trenberth said that global warming is pushing it up another notch.  Ken Kunkel, director, stated that the computer models show that soon well get many more and they will become increasingly hotter.</p>
<p>In the past twenty-five years, evenings in the summer have gotten warmer.  The studies have shown that European heat waves have increased in frequency since 1880.  They will continue to increase.    In the United States, California seems to be hit hardest.  The temperature in Death Valley last week reached one hundred twenty  six degrees.<br />
<span id="more-1075"></span><br />
The United States is experiencing higher temperatures in general and a study done between 1999 and 2003 showed nine hundred heat related deaths.  This year there have been one hundred thirty two in central California already.</p>
<p>It is important to recognize that we are becoming more vulnerable to the heat and temperature.  It is important that each of us gets at least three hours a day of cooling to avoid serious problems.  Encourage your elderly friends and neighbors to be alert to the problem.  If each of us looks out for our neighbors, there will be less heat related deaths.</p>

Though your dream was to fly into outer space, you chose to keep your feet on the ground and let your mind wonder and research. Being attentive, hard-working, intelligent and efficient you have every right to call yourself a scholar, but first of all you are to prove it to the others.</p>
<p>A scholar is a scientist researching the field of his interest and contributing to it. A scholar is doing a vital job: getting to the essence of things and makes an explanation, an outline, readable and understandable for the colleagues and interested individuals. Excellently written dissertation thesis is not enough to call oneself a bright scholar, for your research may be covered with dust and buried under a pile of similar works. You have to be genuinely interested in what you are doing and get some of your writing into your head for further research. If you want your masters thesis to be read and forgotten you may formulate your thesis statement in a keep it simple kind of way. You wont have to worry about your thesis drawing attention. But if you are concerned to show a completely new approach, or state a new point of view or you got luck and made an important discovery, your work can be published by mass media and bring you success. Top priority for every scholar is to help humans live in comfort, keep them informed and provide them with everything necessary for fair development and success. You are to create authority to communicate with other scholars on friendly terms and assist each other in doing research.<br />

A scholar is never tired to investigate and try, experiment and risk. It can take years to come to a conclusion or a discovery, which, by the way, may turn out to be false eventually. A true scholar never gives up trying to find out the truth. Motivators are fame, recognition and a fortune if your discovery brings stable income. That is practically all, what ambitious people need in their lives. There is nothing more awarding than respect in your family, acclaim among colleagues, financial freedom and a bookshelf full of your editions that will make you famous forever.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you are one of the nearly 200 million American cell phone users, you probably signed a contract to get a steal of a deal on your phone.  While this contract might be fine and dandy if you stay in the same town or city, travelers risk high roaming and per minute fees if they venture out of service area.  This is where unlocking your cell phone comes into play.  So how will you know if your phone is locked?  And how do you unlock it if it is?</p>
<p>Cell phones providers AT&amp;T/Cingular and T-Mobile are GSM (Group Special Mobile) and can technically be used worldwide if unlocked.  Sprint, Nextel and Verizon are not GSM providers and cannot be unlocked.  If you have a SIM chip in your phone, then it is GSM and you can perform a mobile unlock on your cell.</p>
<p>Once youve determined your phone number and account are tied to your SIM chip, not your actual phone, you can then perform the following test to see if your phone is locked:<br />
	Borrow an activated SIM chip from a friend using a different wireless service provider<br />
	Install the borrowed SIM chip in your phone and turn it on<br />
	Try calling your friends phone number from a LAN or other mobile phone<br />
	If it rings on your phone, it is unlocked.<br />
	If your mobile with the borrowed SIM does not have service or issues an error message, your phone is locked.<br />
<span id="more-1071"></span><br />
Once you have determined your cell is locked, there are two basic techniques to perform a mobile unlock.  You may have to try both of them to accomplish a mobile unlock.</p>
<p>Some phones may be unlocked by entering a code into it.  The code is usually unique for your particular phone based on the IMEI (serial number) and provider.  The phones IMEI is usually found in the battery case.  Dont confuse this number with the SIM number, they are separate.  You can search online for an online unlock code calculator, then will enter your IMEI and phone model.</p>
<p>Other phones need software to talk to their operating system to unlock.  You typically connect your phone to your PC, run a software program and flash your phones memory.  We can sell you cables and software programs for your phone for a mobile unlock.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Science fair judges have specific things in mind when they review projects. Sure, they like interesting pictures, colorful displays and seeing clever ideas, but they also look for other, more specific, technical features.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s take a peak at some grading sheets from a few science fairs.</p>
<p>One school used a point system to rate the most important elements of the project.</p>
<p>The ratings are below. What can we learn from this example judging sheet?</p>
<p>1) Know the Scientific Method well.</p>
<p>2) Know how to explain your project using the scientific method WITHOUT reading off your display.</p>
<p>3) Be enthusiastic and enjoy your information. Smile.</p>
<p>4) Create a detailed report fleshing out all the information included on your display.</p>

<p>1. Shows knowledge of the Scientific Method:</p>
<p>4 pt. Explains all 6 topics easily, shows understanding of conclusion. 3 pt. Explains at least 5 topics easily, shows understanding. 2 pt. Explains most topics with help from the board. 1 pt. Tries to answer questions asked by the judge.</p>
<p>2. Shows use of the Scientific Method through the board:</p>
<p>4 pt. Presents steps of method clearly and completely with headings 3 pt. Presents each step of method clearly 2 pt. Has each step on the board. 1 pt. Has some steps on the board.<br />

<p>4 pt. Student eagerly talks with many details of the experimentation. 3 pt. Student shows understanding of the project. 2 pt. Student knows what the project is, giving minimal explanation. 1 pt. Student can answer questions when prompted.</p>
<p>5. Presents scientific data in a well-organized, visually appealing display:</p>
<p>4 pt. Board shows data in clear tables, charts, or pictures with headings. 3 pt. Board is neat and attractive, limited table, chart or pictures. 2 pt. Board has headings, using information stated. 1 pt. Board has headings and limited information.</p>
<p>6. Shows written evidence of research, experimentation and analysis :</p>

Are the problems, procedures, data, and conclusions presented clearly and in a logical order? C. Does the student clearly and accurately articulate in writing what was accomplished? D. Is the objective of the project likely to be understood by one not trained in the subject area?</p>
<p>V. Dramatic Value A. Is the display visually appealing? B. Is the proper emphasis given to important ideas? C. Are all the components of the project done well?</p>
<p>VI. Technical Skill A. Was the majority of the work done by the student? B Has the student acknowledged help received from others? C. Does the written material show attention to grammar and spelling? D. Is the project physically sound and durably constructed?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Molybdenum is from the Greek word molybdos meaning lead like. It is directly mined and is a byproduct of copper mining. It was used very infrequently up until the 19th century when Schneider and Co decided to use Molybdenum as an alloying agent in steel. Today there are many uses of molybdenum.</p>
<p>Molybdenum is still used as an alloy agent in steel. All high strength steel contains from .25% to 8% molybdenum which contributes to the hardenability of the steel. It also improves the strength of steel under high temperatures and improves resistance to corrosion.</p>
<p>Steel with molybdenum is used in architectural applications near the ocean; and in environments where road salts are used and there is heavy industrial pollution. The Petrons Towers in Kuala Lumpur are a great example of the use of molybdenum stainless steel.</p>
<p>Nuclear energy applications also use molybdenum as do many aircraft parts and missile parts. Its a catalyst in petroleum refining; in fact it is one of the most valuable. It is also used as a filament material in electrical applications and on electrodes for glass furnaces that are electrically heated. It is a good lubricant that will work in temperatures much higher than oil without decomposing.</p>
<p>Its uses are actually more in-depth than one might think. Youll find it commonly used within the power industry, chemical processing industry, water industry, and wastewater industry. It is also used in construction, building, and architecture; which one might have guessed considering its association to steel. And you will find it in the food industry which seems a bit unusual.<br />

Molybdenum is used to harden and strengthen cast iron. It accomplishes this by changing the pearlite temperature. The use of molybdenum eliminates the need for special heat treatments.</p>
<p>Molybdenum is also used in nickel based alloys, which includes jet engines. It strengthens the nickel alloy and extends the service temperature. This combination is considered a super alloy. Over 1/3 of a jet engines weight is made up of this super alloy.</p>
<p>Molybdenum is a silvery white metal that is very hard. However it is more ductile and softer than tungsten. It has a very high melting point. In fact the only other two metals that have a higher melting point are tantalum and tungsten. Its prime use is in the hardenability and tempering of metals such as steel. It is not a product most of us will ever have direct involvement with but we will likely encounter it in a more subtle manner.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Occam&#8217;s (or Ockham&#8217;s) razor is a principle named after the 14th century mathematician and friar, William of Occam.  Ockham was the village in this English County where he was born. There are many resources to investigate this man and his theories. This is not about him but his thinking.  Thinkers are important to the world.  Over thinking something can be the death of it.</p>
<p>Most people have never heard of this and yet with the logical thinkers of today it is almost built into our genetic code. We know things without realizing how or why we do.  The universe as a whole is almost emanating this into our very souls.  Our brains absorbing codes that alter our thinking giving the same idea to the masses at the same time.  I don&#8217;t completely understand everything. When I hear something my brain lets me know that logically the information is even viable.  The brain will calculate out many different scenarios. You will start to evaluate your own opinions, theories and reason as to why one thing sounds right vs. the other. The Occam&#8217;s razor is a logical way of thinking.<br />

Short excerpts from the 14th century theory:<br />
&#8220;If you have two theories which both explain the observed facts then you should use the simplest until more evidence comes along&#8221;<br />
&#8220;The simplest explanation for some phenomenon is more likely to be accurate than more complicated explanations.&#8221;<br />
&#8220;If you have two equally likely solutions to a problem, pick the simplest.&#8221;<br />
&#8220;The explanation requiring the fewest assumptions is most likely to be correct.&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Keep things simple!&#8221;</p>
<p>You have heard many of these concepts built in to many popular slogans and methods of achieving a goal. The Occam&#8217;s Razor does not only have to applied to only scientific experiments but it can be applied to every day life.</p>
<p>This is a great scholarly way of looking at things.  The way you look at things dictates how you decipher, translate and learn things.  Then if you can learn things you can implement them into discovering the worlds secrets.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In 1950, a chiropractor from America named Bernard Jensen began teaching students about the necessity of using natural foods to detoxify the body. He developed a method by which the color of the iris was used to indicate the presence of different toxins. American iridology was born.</p>
<p>However, iridology, or the study of disease using the color of the iris and certain color and thickness of lines across the eyeball originated in Europe, when a physician from Hungary and a Swedish pastor both noticed iris markings in connection with disease.</p>
<p>The physician-Ignatz von Peczely accidentally injured an owl as a child, breaking its leg. While nursing the owl back to health, the young von Peczely noticed that the thick black mark that appeared in the owl&#8217;s eye after the injury began to lessen as the owl healed. He never forgot it, and as an adult practicing his profession, he recoded that patients with bone fractures experienced the same black mark across the iris.</p>
<p>The Swedish pastor-Nils Liljequist-was exposed to malaria as a young man and while recieveing the treatment of quinine and iodine noticed that his blue eyes began to grow darker as the drugs built up in his system. He grew up to study homeopathic medicine and recorded similar reactions in clients who came to him for detoxification purposes.</p>
<p>It has been said that the eyes are the mirror to the soul. The famous Greek physician Hippocrates believed that they were also the mirror to the body-specifically for the purpose of determining various ailments. He too recorded the presence of black marks across the iris of fractured bones in his patients, and a change in the color of the eye of patients coming down with diseases.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, iridology cannot be used to determine a specific disease.</p>
<p>Practitioners of iridology use it to help patients as a preventative measure understand basic health problems in order to refer them to specialists if needed. The belief is that if a disease is detected in the very early stages it can be prevented from spreading further. The colored part of the eye-the iris-is studied for these markings and color changes by isolating the iris and taking pictures of it with a very strong lens. The process takes about an hour and is painless. The photos are then blown up and gone over with a magnifying glass by the iridologist and used to determine and identify potential ailments.<br />
<span id="more-1058"></span><br />
Most of these ailments are believed to be hereditary, and the patients predisposition to toxicity and disease is determined not only by the photos but with an extensive interview of family medical history. This holistic concept is well accepted by other disciplines of alternative medicine, as it is a fact that all parts of the body are related, especially when used to warn the body of an impending degenerative disease.</p>
<p>Under this theory, the color changes in the eyes at the very onset of the degenerative disease are used by the body to indicate an upcoming health problem, and to warn the body to seek preventative measures. The concept is not far fetched at all-take the example of chiropractors using the process of correcting the spinal alignment to help internal organs. Even conventional physicians check the eyes for signs of sickness. (Blood vessel size is an indication of the level of cholesterol.)</p>
<p>There is, however, some criticism toward iridology as practitioners (especially in the United States) are often not fully or thoroughly trained, as the courses offered are usually no more than two to three days in length and are put on by marketing companies who offer &#8220;certification&#8221; as an iridologist to their distributors. The result is the potential for over diagnosis with the distributor pushing their products through their &#8220;specialist.&#8221;</p>
<p>This tendency toward American consumerism and over marketing has given iridology a black eye (no pun intended) as a reputable form of medicine.</p>
<p>When seeking an iridologist, find one who has been certified by the Institute for Applied Iridology or by the International Iridology Research Association in Solana Beach, CA.</p>
