Rebuilding History

Biloxi Bridge DebrisOnce called the “Southern Route 66,” US 90 is one of the South’s most traveled scenic highways.

On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina washed away key portions of the highway from Louisiana to Alabama, including the US 90 Biloxi Bay Bridge between Biloxi and Ocean Springs.

The rebuilding of this bridge is essential to restoring the economic vitality of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and helping its residents get their lives back to normal.

Work has now begun to rebuild the bridge, with completion scheduled for April 2008. Once completed, the new US 90 bridge will be attractive and culturally significant, offering travelers an unobstructed view of Mississippi’s progress as the Gulf Coast enters a bold, new age.
